What is a straight razor?
A straight razor is a long blade set in a handle that folds open and closed. Straight razors were invented in17th century England and were the primary tool for manual shaving until the rise of the "safety razor" in the mid-20th century. They offer numerous benefits and advantages, including:
- A closer shave: When used correctly, a straight razor can provide an even closer shave compared to a multi-blade safety razor.
- A smoother and cleaner shave: Although it may seem counterintuitive, straight razors, when used properly, can actually be safer and smoother than safety razors. This is because you have more control over how they make contact with your skin. Think of it like the difference between stick-shift driving and automatic transmission: stick-shift takes longer to learn but gives you more control over the vehicle.
- Old-school style: It is challenging to surpass the classic appearance, feel, and weight of a straight razor.

I have never had a straight razor on my skin, what can I expect?
Don't worry if this is your first time. I'm here to help. A straight razor provides a close shave, but sometimes skin may not react well to such a close shave. Some mild irritation, razor bumps, and inflammation may occur. However, with proper skin preparation and a combination of hot and cold towels, we can soothe any irritations that might arise.

First, I'll have you recline in the chair and complete any necessary beard shaping or hair removal. Next, I'll massage shave oil into your skin and apply hot towels to your face to soften the follicles. Once the towel has done its job, I'll apply shave cream to the appropriate areas.
Remain still and trust me to guide you during the shave to avoid any unintentional injuries. Once the shave is complete, I'll finish the service with a cold towel and a post-shaving lotion facial massage.
I've never grown a beard, how does that work?
To begin, I suggest that you allow your facial hair to grow for as long as you can tolerate. This will provide me with a better understanding of the characteristics we are dealing with. I will then evaluate the pattern, texture, and density of your facial hair, and then we will work together to devise a beard plan that not only complements your facial features but also aligns with your lifestyle.
